BREAKING: DOJ Launches Investigation Into Controversial ‘Sharia City’ Project Near Dallas

Justice Department Probes 1,000-Home Islamic Enclave Amid Rising Public Concern Over Sharia-Law Compliance

The U.S. Department of Justice has officially launched an investigation into the proposed Islamic ‘Sharia City’ near Dallas, following mounting public pressure and a direct request by Senator John Cornyn (R-TX). The development, spearheaded by the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) and its affiliate Community Capitol Partners, has sparked a firestorm of controversy for its open alignment with Sharia-compliant infrastructure and institutions.

Located roughly 40 minutes northeast of Dallas in Collin County, the plan includes:

  • A mega mosque

  • Sharia-adherent Muslim schools and a community college

  • Over 1,000 residential homes

  • Retail centers, parks, and recreational facilities—all structured around Islamic legal and cultural principles

Abbott, Cornyn Sound the Alarm

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has already launched a campaign to halt or reevaluate the project, citing national security and constitutional concerns over the parallel legal structure proposed for the city. Senator Cornyn’s push for a DOJ investigation has now triggered a formal probe.

“This isn’t about religion—it’s about whether federal laws are being followed, and if American legal norms are being undermined,” Cornyn said Friday.

A Growing Flashpoint in the National Conversation

Talk radio host Mark Levin called the proposed enclave a dangerous precedent, warning it could pave the way for separatist, parallel societies that undermine integration, equal rights, and U.S. law. Levin cited a report by The Gateway Pundit detailing the proposed project’s scope and religious alignment.

Local officials and residents have also raised concerns about zoning exemptions, curriculum transparency, property taxation, and law enforcement jurisdiction, given the explicitly religious structure of the proposed community.

DOJ Now on the Case

The DOJ investigation will reportedly focus on the land acquisition, zoning approvals, use of federal funds (if any), and potential civil rights conflicts posed by constructing a religiously exclusive municipality.

“The DOJ is reviewing all aspects of the project to determine if any constitutional violations or misuse of federal law are taking place,” a senior official told KHOU.

What Comes Next?

With over 400 acres already acquired by EPIC near Josephine, Texas, the fight over what some critics call an Islamic separatist city is escalating. Supporters argue it’s simply a faith-based development for Muslims, while opponents warn it represents a shadow legal system incompatible with American values.

As the investigation unfolds, the question now becomes: Where is the line between religious freedom and legal secession?
