Democrat Senator Backfires Spectacularly After Blaming Trump for Minnesota Lawmaker Shootings

In a reckless and politically charged blunder, Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) made national headlines after shamelessly blaming President Donald Trump for the targeted shootings of Minnesota lawmakers—despite clear evidence that the suspect was a Democrat insider appointed by Governor Tim Walz.

The shocking attacks, which left Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband dead, and Senator John Hoffman and his wife gravely injured, have rocked the political landscape. The suspect, Vance Luther Boelter, was arrested late Sunday and revealed to have deep ties to the Democrat establishment, including a 2019 appointment by Walz and leadership of an international security firm.

Rather than confront these damning facts, Merkley used a CNN appearance to launch a divisive attack on Trump, claiming the former president created an atmosphere of hate and violence.

“I really feel like Trump has popped the lid off of the rhetoric and the sense of hate and violence,” Merkley declared, while ignoring his party’s own inflammatory history.

But Merkley’s attempt to back up his claims spectacularly collapsed when he cited a bizarre example involving fake pizza deliveries as evidence of right-wing threats—ironically referencing a tactic that’s been overwhelmingly used against conservatives.

“You’re probably familiar with the pizza threats where pizza and other foods (are) delivered to people’s families… Just to say from the right wing, ‘we know who you are,’” Merkley said—completely missing that victims of these incidents include Nick Sortor, Gunther Engleman, Catturd, Shawn Farash, and other conservative voices.

Worse yet, this comes after Infowars journalist Jamie White was murdered, and multiple right-leaning personalities were swatted or harassed—an epidemic largely ignored by the very party now crying wolf.

Social media users were quick to torch Merkley for the tone-deaf and misleading narrative, with many pointing out that this type of political gaslighting only further erodes trust and stokes division.

At a moment when unity and truth are desperately needed, Merkley chose blame over facts, and fiction over accountability—and it blew up in his face.
