Elon Musk to Dial Back DOGE Involvement in May to Double Down on Tesla Priorities

Elon Musk Shifts Gears: DOGE Reins in D.C. Waste, But Tesla Takes a Hit

In a time when America teeters on the brink of fiscal ruin, one man stands tall against the tide of bureaucratic excess: Elon Musk.

The Tesla CEO and world’s richest man has once again proven his unwavering commitment to the nation by spearheading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a bold initiative launched by President Trump to slash waste, fraud, and the bloated bureaucracy plaguing Washington. But even a titan can only stretch so far.

Musk Sounds the Alarm—But Slows the Mission

During Tesla’s earnings call Tuesday night, Musk delivered a major update: starting in May, he’ll significantly reduce his time allocation to DOGE in order to refocus on Tesla, which has been battered by political backlash and dwindling profits.

“Starting probably in [the] next month, May, my time allocation to DOGE will drop significantly,” Musk told investors.
“I’ll have to continue doing it for, I think, the remainder of the president’s term just to make sure that the waste and fraud doesn’t come roaring back, which it will, if it has the chance.”

Musk emphasized the patriotic urgency behind his involvement:

“I believe the right thing here is to just fight the waste and fraud and get the country back on the right track and working together with President Trump and his administration, because if the ship of America goes down, we all go down with it, including Tesla and everyone else.”

DOGE’s Results Speak Volumes—And Rattle the Swamp

Let’s be clear—DOGE has been a roaring success. Under Musk’s leadership, entire agencies have been streamlined, taxpayer dollars recovered, and bloated liberal pet projects have been tossed into the dustbin of irrelevance. The bureaucratic status quo has been shattered—and the left is terrified.

Musk’s no-nonsense approach to rooting out inefficiency has already earned him enemies in entrenched government circles, but now it’s threatening Tesla’s bottom line as well.

Progressive Backlash Hits Musk Where It Hurts

According to Politico, Musk’s outspoken political stance has alienated many of Tesla’s traditionally progressive consumers. A recent poll indicates that 59% of Democrats are now less likely to buy a Tesla due to Musk’s involvement with DOGE and his alignment with Trump.

The financial impact has been brutal:

  • Tesla’s net profit plunged 71% in Q1 of 2025.
  • Automotive revenue dropped by 20%.
  • Stock value has been halved since December.

Musk now finds himself navigating a high-wire act between leading a corporate giant and steering the federal government away from collapse.

A Fork in the Road—But Not a Retreat

Though Musk is scaling back his direct involvement in DOGE, this is not a retreat. It’s a recalibration. The mission to eliminate waste and inefficiency in government is far from over—Musk has laid the groundwork for institutional change, and the blueprint is in place.

Whether liberal elites like it or not, the success of DOGE has made one thing crystal clear: America doesn’t need more bureaucrats—it needs more doers. And Elon Musk has proven he’s willing to take the slings and arrows for the sake of the republic.

The question now is: will the nation stand with him, or stand in his way?
