Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX)—known more for inflammatory rhetoric than legislative achievements—has formally entered the race to become the top Democrat on the powerful House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, vowing to use the position as a launching pad for impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.
The vacancy comes after former Ranking Member Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) stepped down shortly before passing away from cancer last month. A new leader will be chosen on June 24, and Crockett has made it crystal clear that her primary mission is to escalate partisan warfare from the Oversight pulpit.
Crockett’s Radical Platform: Target Trump, Not Corruption
In her letter to fellow House Democrats, Crockett declared:
“Our country is in an existential crisis driven by an out-of-control Executive… We must pull back the curtain on the unmitigated chaos under Trump 2.0.”
Rather than pursuing legitimate oversight of federal agencies or investigating mounting scandals in the administrative state, Crockett has pledged to make Donald Trump the Oversight Committee’s top target, promising Democrats will no longer be “reactive” but instead go on offense.
“The Ranking Member must lay out our case against Trump 2.0 and his accomplices,” Crockett wrote, referring to House Republicans.
Impeachment as a Political Weapon
Crockett’s letter confirms what many Americans have feared: Democrats are openly campaigning on impeachment—not based on evidence of high crimes—but as a political strategy against the 45th (and now 47th) President.
Her campaign to lead Oversight signals a future where Congressional authority is wielded not to check power, but to settle political scores, and the already-eroded legitimacy of the impeachment process is weaponized for partisan theatrics.
