A horrifying act of family violence has shaken the community of Lewisville, Texas, as longtime Republican Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell fights for her life following a brutal stabbing in her own home. The senseless attack, carried out by her own grandson, 23-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher, also claimed the life of her husband, Fred Mitchell.
Early Morning Horror
Police were called to the Mitchell residence in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive at approximately 3:53 a.m. on Monday morning. When they arrived minutes later, they found both victims suffering from multiple stab wounds, inflicted with a serrated kitchen knife, according to law enforcement.
Fred Mitchell succumbed to his injuries shortly after 5:00 a.m., while Commissioner Mitchell was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. She is currently listed in stable condition.
A Legacy of Public Service
Commissioner Mitchell is a highly respected public servant who has spent decades in leadership roles in North Texas. She made history as Lewisville’s first Black mayor in 1993, serving until 2000 when she was elected as Denton County Commissioner for Precinct 3, a position she still holds.
Her leadership and commitment to her community have made her a beloved figure in Denton County and beyond.
Suspect in Custody
The accused, Mitchell Blake Reinacher, was arrested at the scene without incident and is currently charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He remains in custody at the Lewisville jail.
Police have not released a motive, and the investigation is ongoing. The Lewisville Police Department’s crime scene unit is still processing evidence and working to determine what led to the deadly outburst.
A Community in Mourning
News of the attack has stunned Denton County and local officials, many of whom expressed disbelief that such a tragedy could unfold within a family known for service and dedication.
“Commissioner Mitchell has always been a pillar of strength and unity in our community,” one local official said. “Our hearts are broken for her and her family.”
As authorities continue their investigation, North Texas residents are rallying around Bobbie J. Mitchell in prayer and support, hoping for her full recovery—and justice for the unthinkable crime that shattered her home.
