Protective Order Filed Against MS-13 Gang Member Democrats Want Returned to U.S.
Newly uncovered court documents have further undermined Democratic efforts to recast deported El Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia as an innocent family man. The revelation that Garcia’s wife filed a protective order against him for domestic violence in 2021 adds a significant wrinkle to the narrative pushed by his defenders, who argue that he was unjustly deported by the Trump administration.
A Record of Domestic Abuse
According to The Chesapeake Today, Jennifer Vasquez, Garcia’s wife and the mother of their three children, filed for a protective order due to domestic violence on May 13, 2021. A final order was issued on June 17, 2021, by Judge LaKeecia Allen of the Prince George’s County District Court. Judge Allen has since been elevated to the Circuit Court by Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
This documented history of abuse now stands in stark contrast to Vasquez’s current portrayal of Garcia as a victim of “unjust family separation.” In a GoFundMe campaign that has raised over $170,000, Vasquez claims Garcia is “an excellent father” and “the love of my life for over seven years,” glossing over the court’s finding of domestic violence just three years ago.
Political Theater vs. Public Safety
The deportation of Garcia, a confirmed MS-13 gang member, has become a rallying cry for progressive lawmakers and left-wing media figures. Labeling him a “Maryland dad,” Democrats are planning to travel to El Salvador to lobby for his release and return—despite two separate U.S. court rulings affirming Garcia’s gang affiliation and his illegal status in the country.
Under the Alien Enemies Act, Garcia was lawfully deported. His classification as a member of MS-13, now officially designated a foreign terrorist organization, negates the protective status he previously held under a “withholding of removal” order.
“Under our law, he’s not even allowed to be in the United States and had to be returned because of the foreign terrorist designation,” said Stephen Miller, White House Deputy Chief of Staff.
Vasquez’s Plea at Odds With the Facts
In a public statement ahead of her husband’s hearing, Vasquez emotionally pleaded for his return:
“Today is 34 days after his disappearance, and I stand before you filled with a spirit that refuses to be brought down… I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive.”
Yet court records reveal she was the one who petitioned the courts for protection against him just a few years prior.
White House Responds: “This Is Not a Father of the Year Candidate”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the contradiction:
“Democrats are flying to El Salvador right now to demand the return of this violent illegal alien MS-13 gang member back into the United States,” she said on X. “They’re elevating a man with a history of domestic violence and confirmed gang affiliation as some kind of martyr. The American people see right through it.”
Leavitt previously slammed Democrats’ focus on criminal illegal aliens, noting during Tuesday’s press briefing:
“If they cared more about American families like Rachel Morin’s than about MS-13 gang members like Kilmar Garcia, they might actually see their approval ratings improve.”
Final Thoughts
Despite the coordinated media campaign to rebrand Kilmar Abrego Garcia as a sympathetic figure, the facts tell a far different story. His confirmed ties to MS-13, illegal immigration status, and now, court-verified history of domestic abuse, form a profile that no amount of political spin can sanitize.
The Trump administration, backed by court rulings and existing immigration law, is standing firm. As Attorney General Pam Bondi bluntly stated this week:
“He is not coming back to our country. That’s the end of the story.”
