Second Lady Usha Vance Heads to Greenland Amid Trump’s Push for U.S. Acquisition
Visit Coincides with Trump’s Efforts to Bring Greenland Under American Sovereignty
Greenland—Second Lady Usha Vance, wife of Vice President J.D. Vance, is set to visit Greenland this Thursday, accompanied by her son and a U.S. delegation. The high-profile visit comes as President Donald Trump intensifies efforts to acquire the Danish territory for the United States.
White House Announces Vance’s Greenland Trip
The White House released a statement on Sunday confirming the March 27–29 trip, emphasizing the cultural and diplomatic aspects of the visit:
“On Thursday, March 27, 2025, Second Lady Usha Vance will travel to Greenland with her son and a United States delegation to visit historical sites, learn about Greenlandic heritage, and attend the Avannaata Qimussersu, Greenland’s national dogsled race.”
The Avannaata Qimussersu race brings together 37 mushers and 444 sled dogs, showcasing Greenlandic heritage and unity.
“Ms. Vance and the delegation are excited to witness this monumental race and celebrate Greenlandic culture and unity.”
The delegation is expected to return to the U.S. on Saturday.
Trump’s Persistent Interest in Acquiring Greenland
This visit follows earlier diplomatic engagements by Donald Trump Jr. and conservative activist Charlie Kirk, both of whom traveled to Greenland in January.
Before Trump’s inauguration on January 20, Don Jr. and Kirk landed in Nuuk on January 7, expressing U.S. interest in acquiring Greenland.
President Trump posted on Truth Social, emphasizing the strategic importance of Greenland:
“Don Jr. and my reps landing in Greenland. The reception has been great. They, and the Free World, need safety, security, strength, and PEACE! This is a deal that must happen.
MAGA. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”
