Sunday night, President Donald Trump unleashed a scathing rebuke of CBS and its flagship program 60 Minutes, accusing the network of orchestrating another round of fraudulent, politically motivated hit pieces against him—this time targeting his foreign policy positions on Ukraine and Greenland. The fiery remarks came in two back-to-back Truth Social posts, which quickly ignited headlines and social media discourse.
A History of Media Manipulation
Trump began by revisiting a now-infamous 2024 60 Minutes interview with then-vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris. He blasted CBS for allegedly doctoring Harris’s clumsy response to a key question and replacing it with an unrelated answer from earlier in the taping.
“They REMOVED a terrible and incompetently delivered answer… and put in its place a completely different answer to a completely different question, in order to make Kamala look ‘coherent,’” Trump wrote.
That incident is now at the center of a $10 billion lawsuit filed by Trump, which CBS is reportedly considering settling. According to CNN sources, potential settlement discussions have “sparked outrage” in the newsroom, particularly as CBS’s parent company, Paramount, is embroiled in sensitive merger negotiations with Skydance Media.
Targeting the America First Agenda
Trump then turned his attention to 60 Minutes’ latest broadcast, which he says included “two major stories” falsely portraying his administration’s efforts. One segment criticized his position on Ukraine—an “endless globalist war” he says would never have erupted if he had remained in office. The other revisited his proposal to acquire Greenland, which the former president framed as a strategic move to safeguard American interests in the Arctic.
“They’re at it again,” Trump said. “CBS aired two highly inaccurate stories about ‘TRUMP.’ The people at CBS Fake News just don’t get it!”
Calling for Federal Action
In one of his most aggressive moves yet, Trump called on Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr to revoke CBS’s broadcasting license and impose maximum fines on the network.
“CBS is out of control,” Trump wrote. “They should lose their license! Hopefully, the FCC will impose the maximum fines and punishment… for their unlawful and illegal behavior.”
Trump has previously labeled 60 Minutes a “political operative disguised as news,” but Sunday’s call for government sanctions takes the feud to an entirely new level.
Legal Pressure Mounts
Trump’s lawsuit against CBS, 60 Minutes, and Paramount hinges on accusations of “fraudulent and beyond recognition” reporting—charges that, if proven, could devastate the network’s credibility and financial standing.
With FCC Chairman Carr already on record advocating for media transparency and accountability, Trump’s push for regulatory intervention may find a sympathetic ear.
Media Integrity on Trial
As the 2028 election cycle looms, the president’s legal and rhetorical offensive against corporate media is intensifying. To Trump and his supporters, networks like CBS are no longer just biased—they’re active participants in shaping political outcomes through distortion, omission, and calculated manipulation.
The battle lines have been drawn. Trump is fighting back with lawsuits, executive pressure, and a relentless media counteroffensive—demanding not just retractions, but consequences.
“They are not a ‘news show,’” Trump wrote, “but a dishonest political operation. And they must be held responsible.”
In the eyes of Trump’s America First base, the media war isn’t a side show—it’s the frontline in the fight for truth, transparency, and the future of the republic.
