Suspect in Pennsylvania Governor’s Mansion Arson Still Has Active Facebook Page — Raises Serious Questions

The arrest of 38-year-old Cody Balmer of Harrisburg, who was charged with attempted homicide, terrorism, aggravated arson, and burglary, has left law enforcement and citizens alike rattled — not only for the brazen nature of the attack but also for a glaring inconsistency that few can explain: his Facebook page is still active.

Chilling Attack During Passover Celebration

According to court documents obtained by The Gateway Pundit, Balmer carefully orchestrated the attack, entering the Governor’s Residence at 1:43 a.m. on Sunday. Security footage shows him breaking into the piano room, starting a fire, and then igniting a second blaze in the dining area.

The residence was not empty. Governor Josh Shapiro, his wife Lori, their four children, and extended family were inside celebrating Passover just hours before the fire. While no injuries were reported, the risk of tragedy was significant.

Upon surrendering, Balmer confessed to harboring violent hatred toward the Governor and admitted he intended to strike him with a hammer had they crossed paths.

Evidence Ties Balmer to the Crime

A search of Balmer’s residence uncovered critical evidence:

  • A Snap-On jacket and black bag matching surveillance footage

  • The hammer he intended to use

  • Gasoline-soaked gloves dumped in a nearby trash bin

  • Surveillance-confirmed items consistent with those used in the attack

The Strange Part: Facebook Page Still Public

Despite the severity of the charges and the high-profile nature of the case, Balmer’s Facebook profile remains live — something almost never seen in similar cases.

In virtually every high-profile criminal investigation, especially those involving terrorism charges or political targets, law enforcement and platform moderators swiftly lock down or disable social media accounts to preserve evidence and prevent public interference.

So, the question looms:
Why hasn’t Facebook removed or locked Balmer’s account?

Possibilities Behind the Unusual Decision

  • Was there an oversight? Unlikely, given the national attention this case has drawn.

  • Is law enforcement allowing it to remain up for surveillance purposes? That’s been speculated in prior cases, where digital behavior continues to be monitored for accomplice activity.

  • Or is there a broader pattern of selective enforcement based on the political implications of the case? That’s what many are now asking.

Public Reaction: “We’ve Never Seen This Before”

Online commentators and watchdog groups have pointed out that even suspects in far less severe crimes have had their pages taken down almost immediately after arrest. Balmer’s situation defies precedent, and some are calling for an official explanation from both Facebook and law enforcement.

As the investigation progresses, many Americans will be watching not just the criminal proceedings — but how digital evidence is handled in this era of weaponized censorship and selective transparency.

The people deserve answers.
