Triathlete and Rising Political Star Petros Krommidas Vanishes Without a Trace
The quiet shoreline of Long Beach, New York has become the center of an unsettling mystery as Petros Krommidas, a 29-year-old Democrat candidate for the Nassau County Legislature, has vanished during what should have been a routine training swim.
Krommidas, a well-known Long Island local and political newcomer, was last seen Wednesday evening, heading to the beach near the Allegria Hotel, where he often trained for triathlons. His vehicle was found locked, and his clothing, phone, and towel were discovered on the sand—yet no trace of him has been found since.
“Out of Character and Unnerving”
Krommidas’ family, deeply concerned, say the disappearance is completely out of character for the disciplined, health-conscious candidate. A social media statement posted by a relative described the timeline:
“He locked his car, took a towel, and around 10:30 p.m. walked onto the beach to exercise, just as he had done many times before… He was not a stranger to cold water training.”
Police and search teams have combed the shoreline ever since, but no new leads have emerged.

Before entering politics, Krommidas held positions at Morgan Stanley and Sageview Capital. In 2024, he left finance to join the Democratic Party as a field organizer, eventually announcing his candidacy for the Nassau County Legislature. His primary is scheduled for June 24.
Just days before his disappearance, Krommidas had spoken at a Nassau County Young Democrats meeting, further cementing his status as a rising progressive voice in Long Island politics.
