Leftist Lawmakers Side with Predators Over Victims in Sickening Betrayal
In a move being condemned across the political spectrum, radical California Democrats have blocked legislation that would have made the sex trafficking of minors aged 16 and 17 a felony, choosing once again to protect predators under the guise of “criminal justice reform.”
The bill, introduced by Democrat Assemblymember Maggy Krell—a former prosecutor and anti-trafficking advocate—was stripped of its most crucial provision: the felony enhancement that would have ensured real punishment for sex traffickers of older minors.
“It’s a disgrace,” Krell told KCRA. “I’m not going to quit now… I will bring this bill back every year until we protect children.”
The Same Old Excuse: “Equity” Over Justice
Chairman Nick Shultz, a Democrat and Public Safety Committee head, refused to hear the full bill, instead using a so-called “compromise” from 2024 as a shield. That previous deal, struck under public pressure, only made trafficking of children under age 16 a “serious felony”—leaving older minors unprotected in California law.
“We’re not saying no,” Shultz claimed. “But we need to dive deep into this issue.”
Translation: Delay. Water it down. Protect the predators.
Backed by Soros, Shielding Criminals
Many of the Democrats opposing tougher penalties have deep ties to Soros-funded prosecutors and criminal justice “reform” groups who have worked to decriminalize crime under the banner of equity—even when it means turning a blind eye to the trafficking of teens.
Despite mounting evidence of exploitation and public outrage, these officials continue to place ideological dogma over the safety of children.
The Public Speaks — And Gets Ignored
In 2023, Republican Senator Shannon Grove introduced a bill to classify child sex trafficking as a serious felony. It passed unanimously in the Senate, but Democrats in the Assembly blocked it, refusing to increase penalties. It wasn’t until a massive backlash from parents and activists that a compromise was reached—one that still excluded 16- and 17-year-olds.
Now, Krell—a Democrat herself—is getting the same treatment for daring to break ranks and prioritize children over criminals.
California’s Moral Collapse
Let’s be clear: trafficking a 17-year-old is no less evil than trafficking a 15-year-old. The fact that California Democrats are splitting hairs over a predator’s ability to exploit a teenager is morally repugnant.
This isn’t policy—it’s complicity.
The Bottom Line
While radicals in Sacramento argue over “equity,” children are being raped, sold, and discarded in cities across California. The message from the Democrat-controlled Assembly is loud and clear:
They will not stand between your child and a predator.
But brave voices like Maggy Krell’s and Shannon Grove’s are not backing down—and neither should we.
This fight isn’t about party. It’s about protecting children. Period.
