“This Is Poland, Not Brussels”: Grzegorz Braun Sets EU Flag Ablaze, Denounces ‘Globalist Occupation’

Polish presidential candidate Grzegorz Braun ignited international controversy—literally—after setting fire to the European Union flag in a dramatic protest denouncing the EU as a “hostile ideological occupier.”

The stunt, which unfolded at the historic Wujek coal mine in Katowice, sent shockwaves through both Polish and European political circles. The mine—an iconic symbol of anti-communist resistance in Poland—provided a pointed backdrop for Braun’s message: Europe has replaced Soviet control with globalist tyranny.

“This is Poland—down with Euro-Communism!” Braun shouted, as cheering coal miners looked on.

A Theatrical Blow to the EU

Braun, an ultranationalist and European Parliament member, stormed into the Ministry of Industry, ripped down the EU flag, wiped his shoes on it, and torched it on the street—a bold rejection of the EU’s influence over Polish energy, culture, and sovereignty.

“We will not tolerate the symbols of hostile structures,” Braun said.
“These emblems carry no legal protection here.”

He accused Brussels of pushing radical climate dogma that aims to dismantle Poland’s coal industry—the backbone of its working-class economy and national identity.

“This organization has led to Poland’s liquidation,” he added.
“This is Poland, not Brussels!”

Not Just Talk: Braun’s Long Record of Defiance

Braun’s flag-burning came just one day after the European Parliament stripped him of immunity, opening the door for criminal charges. His record of political provocation includes:

  • Disrupting a Hanukkah ceremony in the Polish Parliament in 2023 with a fire extinguisher, calling it “Talmudic worship” by a foreign religious lobby

  • Removing an LGBT-themed Christmas tree from a courthouse

  • Interrupting a Holocaust lecture at the German Historical Institute

  • Confronting a doctor over an abortion procedure

Despite condemnation from Brussels and establishment media, Braun remains defiant. He frames his actions as defense of Poland’s sovereignty, traditions, and Christian roots—a last stand against what he calls “globalist totalitarianism.”

A Loud Voice, But a Long Shot

While Braun’s theatrics have captured attention, he remains a fringe candidate, polling between 1% and 3% in the upcoming presidential race. A runoff appears unlikely.

Still, the message he represents—a fierce rejection of EU control, rising nationalism, and cultural resistance—is gaining traction across Eastern Europe.

For many in Brussels, Braun is a dangerous radical. For his supporters, he’s a patriot daring to say what others won’t.

And with one burning flag, he’s ensured that “Euro-Communism” won’t be ignored in Poland’s presidential campaign.
