Leftist Attorney General Lord Hermer Under Fire After Nazi Comparison in ECHR Debate

Another scandal has rocked Keir Starmer’s flailing Labour government, this time involving Attorney General Lord Baron Hermer, who outrageously likened politicians critical of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to Nazi-era German legal experts.

Hermer’s comments, made in a public speech, suggested that UK leaders calling to withdraw from the ECHR were akin to those in 1930s Germany who “rejected international law and human rights in favor of state power.” The backlash was immediate and bipartisan.

Facing mounting pressure, Hermer issued a half-hearted apology, saying his “choice of words was clumsy” but stood by the broader message of his speech. The apology, filtered through a spokesman and released by Downing Street, has done little to quell public anger.

Tories, Reform, and the Public Furious: “This Is Dangerous”

The condemnation was swift and unforgiving.

Kemi Badenoch, Conservative Party leader, slammed Hermer’s comparison as both “embarrassing” and “dangerous,” accusing him of believing in the rule of lawyers over the rule of law.

“Now he’s calling people who disagree with him Nazis… If Keir Starmer had any backbone, he’d sack him. But will he risk upsetting his old friend and former donor? I doubt it.”

Nigel Farage called the scandal a reflection of the “failing Government,” adding that Hermer’s worldview is far removed from British values and border security concerns.

Even Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, didn’t mince words:

“Lord Hermer’s appalling smear shows the complete disdain with which Labour views people who care about border security. He is a liability.”

Pattern of Controversy in Starmer’s Cabinet

The scandal follows closely on the heels of Labour’s Lucy Powell, who came under fire for dismissing concerns over Pakistani grooming gangs as a “dog whistle issue.” The repeated theme is clear: Labour’s top brass are increasingly out of touch with working-class concerns, particularly on immigration and national sovereignty.

Starmer’s refusal to remove Hermer, despite the uproar, is being viewed as a sign of weakness—or worse, ideological alignment.

Attorney General’s Office Defends Speech Despite Outcry

Hermer’s team doubled down, insisting his remarks were about upholding international law, citing threats from “aggressive states like Russia” and the importance of international cooperation to combat immigration crime.

“He rejects the characterization of his speech by the Conservatives,” the spokesman said, while acknowledging “regret” over the Nazi comparison.

Conclusion: Starmer’s Government at a Breaking Point

Hermer’s offensive analogy, rather than being an isolated misstep, has become emblematic of a Labour leadership increasingly viewed as elitist, globalist, and dismissive of patriotic concerns.

The Prime Minister is now under intense pressure to fire Hermer, yet remains silent. For many voters, the question now isn’t whether Hermer crossed the line—but whether Starmer has the courage to draw one.

Every day he hesitates, he proves his government is more loyal to ideology than to the British people.
