German Conservative Media Leak Intelligence Dossier Used to Justify Surveillance of Opposition Party AfD

A stunning political revelation is rocking Germany after top conservative outlets published the secret 1,100-page intelligence dossier used by the government to classify the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as “confirmed far-right.” The leak exposes what critics are calling a weaponization of the intelligence services against democratic opposition — for nothing more than criticizing open borders and mass immigration.

The publications Cicero, Tichy’s Einblick, and Junge Freiheit all released excerpts from the document, which was compiled by Germany’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), the country’s domestic intelligence agency. The file was used by former Interior Minister Nancy Faeser to justify increased surveillance and potential banning of the AfD — Germany’s largest opposition party — on her final day in office.

What Did the “Classified” Dossier Actually Contain?

Rather than uncovering any actual criminal conspiracies or acts of terrorism, the dossier relied entirely on public social media posts and political statements from AfD members. These include routine critiques of unchecked migration, Islamization, and housing shortages caused by mass immigration.

One example cited as extremist:

“Instead of a pointless housing summit: Deportation for more housing!… Up to one million apartments may be missing by 2025… Instead of securing borders, they organize a pointless housing summit and pass brutal regulations at the expense of Germans.”

Another post from AfD youth leader Carlo Clemens highlighted concerns many American conservatives would find completely rational:

“Even more migration, even more alleged ‘diversity’, even more naturalizations. Germany is becoming a Third World settlement.”

These statements — though provocative — reflect conventional nationalist or populist rhetoric, and fall well within the bounds of democratic speech in many countries.

Redefining Dissent as Hate

According to the BfV’s framing, any criticism of immigration policy that implies cultural or economic consequences is tantamount to inciting hatred. The agency claimed that such language constitutes “defamation and contempt” of migrant groups, and thus violates Germany’s constitutional guarantee of human dignity.

In a particularly controversial stretch, the dossier even alleged antisemitism — not for attacking Jews, but for criticizing non-Jews like Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum using “antisemitic tropes that are typically applied to Jews.” By this logic, negative portrayals of globalist elites now qualify as hate speech under German law.

“This not only violates the dignity of Jews, but also of non-Jews, who are effectively treated as Jews with antisemitic connotations,” the report bizarrely concludes.

Backlash and Global Attention

After the AfD challenged the classification in court and U.S. Senator Tom Cotton intervened by asking the Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to halt cooperation with German intelligence over its partisan targeting, the BfV was forced to retract its “far-right” label. Still, the damage had been done.

The report conspicuously omits the official AfD party platform, which aligns closely with mainstream conservative ideologies — sovereignty, border control, and national identity. No acts of violence or extremist plans were uncovered. Only political speech was cited.

Weaponized Intelligence

This leak further confirms what many across Europe and the U.S. have long feared: the rise of political surveillance states masquerading as defenders of democracy. The intelligence apparatus in Germany appears to have been mobilized to destroy the credibility and momentum of a legal opposition party — using only its words as evidence.

If criticizing open borders, mass immigration, or globalist policies now warrants being labeled an extremist, the implications for free speech and pluralism in Europe are dire.
