Trump Appoints Pirro to Tackle D.C. Crime Surge
In a dramatic and politically charged move, President Donald Trump has appointed Jeanine Pirro—former prosecutor, judge, and television firebrand—as Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Pirro was officially sworn in on Wednesday, vowing to end D.C.’s violent crime epidemic with a no-nonsense, law-and-order approach.
The appointment follows the failed confirmation of Ed Martin, whose nomination was blocked by Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC). Tillis, who supported Biden’s confirmation of Attorney General Merrick Garland, said he opposed Martin’s nomination “for political reasons,” but would have supported him in another district.
Trump: “Big Improvements Coming to D.C.”
President Trump praised Pirro as one of the “top District Attorneys in the history of the State of New York” and said she will bring swift justice to a capital city overwhelmed by lawlessness.
“You’ll see very, very big improvements in the DC area, that I can promise you,” Trump said. “She will restore public safety, break up vicious street gangs, and ensure equal justice under the law.”

Pirro used her swearing-in ceremony to outline a powerful mission: restore law and order in the nation’s capital and reverse the soft-on-crime policies that have plagued the city.
“My voice should be heard loud and clear: No more tolerance of hatred, no more mercy for criminals,” she declared.
She recalled her early legal career, fighting for victims—especially women, children, and the elderly—and criticized the justice system for having grown “blind and deaf” to the needs of innocent victims.
“Violence will be addressed correctly with the appropriate punishment,” she said, referencing a recent double murder in D.C. that shocked the community.
