KENNY CODY: House Passing New CR Is a Big Win for Trump and MAGA
For the past decade, Republicans in Washington, D.C., have struggled to pass strong America First policies. Whether it was approving massive spending bills that helped President Joe Biden, sending billions in aid to Ukraine, or supporting amnesty instead of stricter immigration laws, they often hurt their own cause. Time and again, congressional Republicans failed to secure key victories for President Trump and the MAGA movement when it mattered most.
Thankfully, the American people gave a clear mandate to now-47th President Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled House and Senate. This has led to a major win for lower spending and fiscal responsibility. On March 10, 2025, the House passed a Continuing Resolution (CR), giving Republicans a solid argument against Democrats as they face attacks from the mainstream media, political pundits, and future election opponents in the 2026 midterms.
This CR reflects Trump’s priorities, proving to the American people that the GOP is now serious about fiscal responsibility and conservative economic policies. Instead of sending money overseas, Republicans are now focusing on America First.
The bill also strengthens House Speaker Mike Johnson’s relationship with the Trump administration. Johnson faced criticism from the Republican base for compromising on previous spending bills and foreign aid under Biden. But now, he has helped deliver a key victory, aligning himself with Trump’s agenda and earning the support of the MAGA movement.
More importantly, this CR is a big win for Trump himself. With a narrow House majority, he needed to unite Republicans—including skeptics—on key spending cuts and policies. The bill includes an extension of Trump’s popular 2017 tax cuts, stronger border security, and major reductions in wasteful federal spending. These are the same priorities Republicans campaigned on nationwide.
Trump’s influence in Congress is stronger than ever. His leadership played a huge role in getting the CR passed, securing votes from fiscal conservatives like Rep. Tim Burchett and House Freedom Caucus members, as well as moderates like Rep. Don Bacon and even Democratic Rep. Jared Golden. The final 217-213 vote proved that Trump doesn’t just make promises—he follows through, even convincing skeptics to support his plan.
During his Joint Address to Congress, Trump focused on achieving his agenda through “swift and unrelenting action.” While some libertarians like Rep. Thomas Massie may dislike the idea of keeping the government open, this CR was different—it avoided the wasteful spending of past bills while delivering real conservative victories.
Trump has brought much-needed stability to Congress. After the chaos of removing Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the struggles of Speaker Johnson under Biden, and years of GOP infighting, Trump has finally united the party around a clear America First message. This CR is proof that his leadership is making a difference.
