Leaked Audio Exposes ESPN Producer Calling Stephen A. Smith an “Angry Black Man”
March 21, 2025
A bombshell leaked audio recording has surfaced, exposing ESPN producer Ryan Bertrand making racially charged and demeaning comments about ESPN host Stephen A. Smith behind closed doors.
The audio, obtained and released by O’Keefe Media Group (OMG), captures Bertrand mocking Smith, labeling him as an “angry black man” and trashing his credibility when it comes to political discourse.
Bertrand’s Remarks About Smith on Leaked Audio
In the shocking leaked conversation, Bertrand suggests that Smith is nothing more than a loud and exaggerated stereotype being used for entertainment purposes.
“We have this one guy, his name is Stephen A. Smith. He plays the angry black on TV. The angry black man stereotype is basically you’re loud, you talk over people. What you say is not necessarily important, it’s more how loud you are and how, I guess, how you deliver your speech.”
Bertrand did not stop there—he also criticized Smith’s frequent appearances on Fox News, where the sports host has been increasingly critical of the Democratic Party and has spoken out on issues beyond sports.
“He goes on Fox News probably like once a week, and he’ll talk about Gaza, and he has no idea about Gaza but for whatever reason, Fox News will have him do a ten-minute conversation with their anchor. We’re like, brother, you were just talking about the Lakers, like, three hours ago. Like, what do you know about Gaza?”
Bertrand further revealed that ESPN staffers routinely mock Smith behind his back, claiming they view him as a clueless attention-seeker.
“[Smith is] very much ‘whoever’s buying my bullst, I will sell you my bullst.’ Which, it’s like Fox News sometimes, I guess.”

LeBron James vs. Stephen A. Smith Incident
Bertrand also referenced a tense confrontation between LeBron James and Stephen A. Smith, claiming that LeBron personally confronted Smith about criticizing his son, Bronny James, on national television.
“Stephen A. had been talking about LeBron’s son for, like, a while,” Bertrand said. “Long story short, LeBron confronted him at a game one time and basically said, ‘Stop talking sht about my son.’”*
Former NBA Star Reacts: “Yes, It’s Real”
The explosive audio leak quickly went viral, prompting reactions from former NBA players and sports personalities.
Former NBA All-Star Roy Hibbert responded to the revelations with disbelief, confirming the authenticity of the leaked footage.
“Yes, it’s real, Roy.” – James O’Keefe responded to Hibbert on X.
Political Bias and Internal Drama at ESPN?
This scandal raises serious questions about political bias and racial stereotyping within ESPN. Smith, one of the most recognizable voices in sports media, has recently been outspoken against the Democratic Party and has challenged leftist narratives, particularly in his appearances on Fox News.
Many are now asking:
- Is ESPN retaliating against Smith for his political views?
- Are conservative-leaning voices being mocked or silenced within the network?
- Will ESPN take any action against Bertrand following the leak?
Conclusion: Will ESPN Address This Controversy?
This leak has rocked the sports media world, exposing what many suspected about ESPN’s internal culture.
With Smith becoming more politically vocal, this raises concerns about whether ESPN tolerates differing viewpoints or if the network’s higher-ups are pushing an agenda behind closed doors.
What do you think? Should ESPN fire Ryan Bertrand?
