Political YouTuber ‘Shlomo’ Freed After Prison Ordeal, Blasts German Police State in Explosive Statement

In a stunning win for free speech and a devastating rebuke of authoritarian overreach in the EU, controversial German YouTuber Aron Pielka—known by his satirical alias Shlomo Finkelstein—has been freed from prison after serving nine months for what critics are calling “thought crimes” under Germany’s speech laws. His release follows a wave of international attention and his own viral appeal to U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, who had recently condemned EU censorship at the Munich Security Conference.

A Modern-Day Political Prisoner

Pielka was arrested in August 2024 by a masked SWAT team in front of his infant son. His “crimes” included:

  • Burning a Koran on video

  • Using a satirical image of Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels

  • Playing parody music by Israeli-American artist Rucka Rucka Ali

Though his actions were clearly satirical and intended to mock extremism—not promote it—German authorities weaponized “hate speech” laws to silence his dissent. Under Germany’s expanding censorship regime, even criticism using banned symbols can result in prison time.

Pielka was denied parole, denied furlough, monitored, interrogated, and pressured to become an informant against right-wing groups such as AfD. He was even attacked in prison by a suspected state-planted neo-Nazi, and allegedly offered freedom if he agreed to “cooperate” with intelligence services. He refused.

Shocking Appeal to J.D. Vance Ignites Global Attention

In February, after being denied parole, Pielka released a voice message to Vice President Vance, describing his imprisonment as an example of what Vance had condemned: an EU-wide crackdown on dissent cloaked in the language of “deradicalization.” Days later, his access to phone calls was restricted and monitored. Letters were censored. Visitors were screened.

But the message had already landed.

When German state media doxxed him again in May, Pielka responded with a fiery written letter demanding the right to publicly defend himself. Shortly after, he was suddenly released—with no clear explanation.

“I probably just got on their nerves so much they finally let me go,” he said. “If you become a pain in the ass, they have to start listening.”

Blistering Final Words: “How the Hell Can You Look in the Mirror?”

In his powerful statement upon release, Pielka shredded the moral pretenses of Germany’s political police, accusing them of violating every principle of democratic justice:

“You’re doing that with one family father after another, kidnapped in broad daylight in front of his son’s eyes… And you’re the good guys here, right? What sick shit.”

“Transparency is your kryptonite. Simply the public knowing about the sick things you do is as dangerous to your reputation as holy water to the devil.”

He compared the system that imprisoned him to fascism masquerading as antifascism, and mocked attempts to “de-radicalize” him by government psychologists:

“They didn’t want to talk to me because I didn’t give them what they wanted. I said I have a fulfilling life, a great job, and wonderful friends. The only problem I have is the gray men who jump out of bushes and kidnap me in front of my son’s eyes.”

A Global Moment for Free Speech—and for MAGA Foreign Policy

The timing of Pielka’s release—just days before German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visits Donald Trump at the White House—is raising eyebrows.

Make no mistake: this isn’t just a German story. It’s a victory for the international populist movement and a major credit to the MAGA-led push for global free speech rights.

Pielka’s case highlights the grim direction of many Western democracies—but it also shows that public resistance, digital transparency, and international solidarity can still win.
