Pregnant Twerking Video Backfires as Meghan Markle Sparks New Wave of Surrogacy Conspiracies

Meghan Markle’s Delivery Room Dance Fuels Even Wilder Theories About Her Pregnancy

In a move that baffled royal watchers and social media alike, Meghan Markle shared a video of herself twerking while pregnant in a hospital delivery room to mark her daughter Lilibeth’s fourth birthday—only to ignite the very conspiracy theories she may have hoped to bury.

The footage, showing a visibly pregnant Duchess of Sussex dancing to the viral “Baby Mama Dance,” has become the latest lightning rod for skeptics who claim Meghan never actually carried either of her children.

While many saw the video as light-hearted, others interpreted it as a poorly executed response to persistent online theories alleging Meghan wore a prosthetic bump, known as a “Moonbump,” and used surrogates to give birth to both Archie and Lilibeth.

Conspiracy Claims Get a Second Wind

The Telegraph, while clearly dismissing the theories as “bonkers,” acknowledged that the video has revived longstanding speculation dating back to 2019. Back then, critics claimed that Meghan’s appearance fluctuated oddly throughout her pregnancy with Archie, and some even alleged that newborn photos were staged using a hyper-realistic doll. One now-deleted Kensington Palace tweet supposedly referencing a surrogate birth further fueled the hysteria.

Now, conspiracy theorists are dissecting Meghan’s body in the new video, pointing out that while her belly appears large, her arms and face remain notably slim—something they argue doesn’t align with her past statements about gaining 65 pounds during pregnancy. Meghan addressed this weight gain on her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, but critics aren’t buying it.

Expert: Fighting Conspiracies Can Backfire

According to Sander van der Linden, a professor of social psychology at the University of Cambridge, trying to confront conspiracy theories directly often reinforces them. “Generally, the more you try and refute a conspiracy theory, the more you fuel the idea that there’s something to it,” he explained. “It legitimizes it.”

Van der Linden added that in today’s climate—where AI deepfakes blur the lines between reality and fabrication—videos alone can’t end speculation, especially when trolls are eager to see what they want to see.

A PR Stunt Gone Wrong?

Rather than silencing her critics, Meghan’s latest move seems to have handed them more ammunition. Whether it was an attempt to laugh off the conspiracy with humor or a genuine family moment shared for her daughter’s birthday, the result has been a public relations nightmare.

This isn’t the first time Meghan’s motherhood journey has come under siege. She has previously spoken about enduring mental health struggles during her first pregnancy—making the continued circulation of these accusations all the more painful.

But in the social media era, one twerking video was enough to spark a storm. Whether intended as satire, defiance, or celebration, it has only fanned the flames of one of the internet’s most relentless royal conspiracies.
