Rep. Randy Weber to Introduce Censure Resolution Against Rep. Jasmine Crockett Over Comments Mocking Gov. Greg Abbott’s Disability

Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas) is preparing to introduce a formal censure resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives targeting fellow Texan Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) following her recent comments mocking Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s disability.

Weber, speaking with Fox News, condemned Crockett’s remarks as “reprehensible,” calling them an unacceptable personal attack that violates the basic standards of decency and decorum expected in public service.

“The story of our great governor of Texas is one of unwavering resilience and perseverance,” Weber said. “Meanwhile, the actions of Jasmine Crockett—stooping to vile levels of discrimination and despicable political attacks—are nothing short of reprehensible.”

The Remarks That Sparked the Controversy

Crockett’s comments were made during a Human Rights Campaign event in Los Angeles this past Sunday. Referring to Governor Abbott, who has been paralyzed from the waist down since a 1984 jogging accident, Crockett said:

“Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there—come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot a– mess, honey.”

The crowd reportedly laughed and applauded in response, but the comment immediately drew backlash for its mockery of the governor’s disability and for the tone in which it was delivered.

A Governor’s Journey Through Adversity

Governor Abbott’s personal story is one marked by extraordinary perseverance. At age 26, he was severely injured when a large oak tree fell on him during a jog, leaving him paralyzed. Rather than retreat from public life, Abbott went on to serve as a judge, Texas Attorney General, and now Governor. His leadership has often been framed through the lens of personal strength in the face of adversity.

Rep. Weber pointed to this journey as a testament to Abbott’s character and commitment to Texas.

Calls for Accountability in the House

The censure resolution proposed by Weber would serve as a formal reprimand of Crockett’s conduct. While largely symbolic and unlikely to result in direct consequences, a successful censure vote would represent a strong rebuke from her congressional peers.

Weber, who represents the 14th Congressional District of Texas, said Crockett’s comments reflect a broader decline in political civility and respect in public discourse.

“There’s no room in Congress—or anywhere in Texas—for mocking someone’s disability,” he said. “We can disagree on policy without crossing the line into personal attacks rooted in cruelty.”

Next Steps

It remains to be seen how much support Weber’s resolution will garner among members of Congress. While Republicans are likely to back the move, Democrats may rally around Crockett or attempt to downplay the controversy as a moment of poor judgment.

Rep. Crockett has not publicly commented on the backlash or issued an apology as of this writing.

The resolution is expected to be formally introduced later this week.
