Wyoming’s Harriet Hageman Goes on Offense with New Bill to Deny Visas to Schools in Sanctuary Cities
Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY), the conservative firebrand who unseated Liz Cheney, is once again taking bold action to defend America’s sovereignty. This week, she introduced the “No Student Visas for Sanctuary Cities Act,” a sharp-edged piece of legislation aimed at cutting off the flow of international students to colleges located in cities that defy federal immigration law.
The proposed bill would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit student visas for institutions operating within sanctuary jurisdictions, directly challenging left-wing cities that harbor illegal immigrants. The logic is clear: if a city refuses to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, it should not benefit from the financial and cultural privileges that come with hosting foreign students.
Hageman blasted the sanctuary city movement as a reckless rebellion against the rule of law:
“Leftist proponents of open borders… have caused leaders within sanctuary cities to completely undermine the rule of law,” she stated, highlighting the dangers of criminal elements, including cartels, being shielded by such policies.
Her bill adds a new layer of accountability, placing real pressure on these jurisdictions to comply with immigration laws or face direct consequences in the form of lost revenue, prestige, and access to international education markets.
The legislation is expected to spark outrage among Democrats who have long protected sanctuary cities as political strongholds and cultural flashpoints.
