In a rare moment of clarity from the Democratic ranks, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has issued a sharp rebuke of the violent riots that have engulfed Los Angeles in recent days, warning that his own party is dangerously close to moral collapse.
Posting directly to X (formerly Twitter), Fetterman pulled no punches:
“I unapologetically stand for free speech, peaceful demonstrations, and immigration — but this is not that. This is anarchy and true chaos.”
Fetterman, known for his blunt style, expressed deep concern that Democrats are alienating the public by refusing to condemn lawlessness:
“My party loses the moral high ground when we refuse to condemn setting cars on fire, destroying buildings, and assaulting law enforcement.”
The senator’s remarks stood in stark contrast to the broader Democratic response, where many on the left have chosen to sympathize with or outright justify the rioters — framing them as allies in their battle against President Trump’s immigration policies.
Fetterman’s unexpected stance drew immediate support from prominent figures across the political spectrum. Elon Musk responded with an American flag emoji. GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy also voiced approval. But perhaps the most searing response came from White House Deputy Chief of Staff Taylor Budowich, who praised Fetterman while condemning the current direction of the Democratic Party.
“This is a wake-up call for many Democrats: there is no room for you in the party of Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris,” Budowich said. “They defend chaos, reject biology, and are unbothered by the invasion of our nation.”
As violent uprisings and anti-ICE riots continue in major cities, Fetterman’s words mark a dramatic shift — and perhaps the first crack in the Democratic Party’s silent approval of chaos in the streets.
