Maher’s Misinformation Exposed on National Stage
Bill Maher’s smug dismissal of transgender animal testing during a recent interview with Charlie Kirk is now being exposed as a blatant falsehood. Maher, doubling down on previous false claims from his HBO show, insisted that President Donald Trump had confused “transgenic” mice with “transgender” experiments. Yet evidence overwhelmingly shows that federally funded transgender animal experiments were not only real — they were widespread, cruel, and taxpayer-funded until Trump’s intervention.
Appearing on Face the Nation, Maher derided Kirk for believing in the reality of the tests, saying, “You swallowed that one whole, like a snake does a mouse.” He smugly insisted, “It wasn’t ‘transgender.’ It was ‘transgenic.’”
In fact, the only one swallowing lies appears to be Maher himself.
The Receipts: $400 Million for Transgender Animal Experiments
Before Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency reforms, over $400 million in active NIH grants had been allocated to grotesque experiments involving the forced sex alteration of lab animals.
Investigations by White Coat Waste Project (WCW), a watchdog organization focused on ending taxpayer-funded animal abuse, revealed horrific details:
-
University of the Pacific received a $1.15 million grant to castrate male rats, inject female rats with testosterone, and later overdose them with GHB to mimic “transgender” human overdose risks.
-
A $299,240 grant funded the creation of “transmasculine” mice through testosterone treatments and surgical removal of ovaries.
-
Another $442,444 grant was used to sterilize animals, inject them with hormone therapies, and inflict wounds meant to simulate transgender surgeries.
The language in these grants explicitly referred to “cross-sex hormone therapy” — not genetic modification. This was surgical and hormonal sex-change experimentation, pure and simple.
Trump’s Real Record: Protecting Animals and Slashing Waste
Despite smears from PETA — where Maher serves as an “honorary director” — President Trump took historic action against animal cruelty in research:
-
2018: FDA ended nicotine addiction experiments on monkeys after pressure from WCW.
-
2020: FDA adopted a policy for retiring lab animals, ensuring fewer would be euthanized after experiments.
-
2023: FDA’s largest in-house primate lab was shut down, dramatically reducing primate testing.
-
EPA: Began phasing out all mammalian testing, aiming for full elimination by 2035.
The Trump Administration’s leadership on this issue saved thousands of animals from death and saved taxpayers millions — facts that Maher conveniently ignores.
Maher and PETA’s Political Hypocrisy
Maher’s continued lying about this issue exposes a deeper hypocrisy: while claiming to oppose animal cruelty, he and PETA repeatedly sided with anti-Trump forces, ignoring Trump’s historic reforms.
In November 2021, PETA falsely tweeted, “Trump did nothing to stop animal experimentation,” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Like Maher, they chose politics over principles, undermining real victories for animal welfare simply to attack Trump.
Conclusion: Who Really Got It Wrong?
Despite Maher’s sneering condescension, the facts are clear: Trump was right.
Transgender animal testing was real.
It was funded with taxpayer dollars.
And Trump — not Maher, not PETA — took serious steps to end it.
Maher’s embarrassing attempt to rewrite history has been exposed, and no amount of smug posturing can cover up the truth.
