Trump Slams Gavin Newsom, Backs Arrest for Aiding Illegal Rioters: “He’s Grossly Incompetent”
In a fiery exchange with reporters outside the White House on Monday, President Donald Trump didn’t mince words when asked about California’s out-of-control riots and the escalating war of words between Border Czar Tom Homan and Governor Gavin Newsom.
When asked directly whether Homan should arrest Newsom for harboring illegal aliens and obstructing federal law enforcement, Trump responded unequivocally:
“I would do it if I were Tom. I think it’s great. Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a great thing. He’s done a terrible job… grossly incompetent.”
“Professional Agitators and Insurrectionists”
Trump also zeroed in on the violent unrest spreading across Los Angeles, calling the rioters “professional agitators” and “insurrectionists” who belong behind bars.
“The people causing the problem are professional agitators. They’re insurrectionists. They’re bad people. They should be in jail.”
This statement marks a clear rhetorical escalation and reaffirms Trump’s hardline stance against the wave of criminal riots engulfing Democrat-run cities.
Newsom’s Daring Challenge
The president’s remarks came after Newsom mocked and dared Tom Homan in a press conference from LAPD headquarters, saying:
“Tom, arrest me, let’s go, let’s just get it over with, tough guy.”
Newsom’s sarcastic challenge followed Homan’s warning that state leaders could face legal consequences for obstructing ICE and shielding illegal aliens involved in violence against federal agents.
“Nice Guy, But Grossly Incompetent”
Though Trump noted that he personally “likes” Newsom, he shredded the governor’s record, citing the California high-speed rail disaster as symbolic of Newsom’s failed leadership.
“All you have to do is look at the little railroad he’s building. It’s about 100 times over budget. We’re putting a flagpole up — under budget!”
This jab highlights a broader contrast between Trump’s America First leadership and what he described as liberal incompetence and fiscal waste under Newsom.
