A Historic Overhaul: New Policies, Record Budget, and Iron Resolve to Rebuild U.S. Defense

President Donald Trump is executing the most sweeping overhaul of the U.S. military in decades, combining bold executive action, structural reform, and the largest defense budget in American history to reassert military dominance and remove distractions from America’s armed forces.

Together with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the Trump administration has launched a relentless campaign to realign the military around its core mission: fighting and winning wars. From reinstating pre-Obama standards to trimming Pentagon fat and modernizing weapons systems, Trump’s defense revolution is shifting the military from identity politics back to mission-first discipline.

Executive Order 14183: Prioritizing Excellence Over Ideology

Signed on January 27, 2025, Executive Order 14183 bars transgender-identifying individuals from serving in the military under a gender different from their biological sex. The Department of Defense is now required to stop all gender-transition procedures for service members and revise policies to reflect biological realities.

“Military service is about warfighting, not wokeness,” President Trump declared.

Supporters argue that recovery times, hormone therapies, and social frictions reduce deployability and unit cohesion. Trump’s policy restores pre-2016 standards that emphasize medical readiness and combat effectiveness.

Reinstating Vaccine-Discharged Troops

In a move that drew praise from liberty-focused veterans groups, President Trump also signed an order reinstating troops who were discharged for refusing COVID-19 vaccines. These service members will receive restored rank and back pay—an acknowledgment of personal freedom and what many saw as a forced medical decision.

“Less Generals, More GIs” Campaign

Under Defense Secretary Hegseth, the Pentagon is undergoing a historic decapitation of top-heavy leadership. A 20% reduction in four-star generals and admirals, alongside a 10% cut across all flag officer ranks, is expected to dismantle bureaucratic fiefdoms and redirect resources to frontline troops.

“In World War II, 17 four-stars commanded 12 million troops. Today, 44 command 2 million. We need warriors, not paper-pushers,” Hegseth said.

This decentralization effort will streamline command structures, reduce overhead, and increase battlefield agility.

Building America’s “Golden Dome” Missile Shield

Trump has greenlit development of a domestic missile defense system modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome. Dubbed the “Golden Dome,” this initiative will leverage existing platforms like THAAD, Aegis, and Patriot, but introduce newer tools such as drone interceptors, laser defenses, and localized anti-drone batteries.

The objective: defend the homeland, key infrastructure, forward operating bases, and vulnerable territories like Guam and Hawaii against short-range and asymmetric threats.

Though costly—each interceptor can reach $100,000—the Trump administration is prepared to back it with unmatched financial commitment.

A $1 Trillion Defense Budget: Largest in U.S. History

Trump’s proposed FY2026 defense budget totals $1.01 trillion, a 13% increase from the previous year. The proposal emphasizes not just raw firepower but comprehensive modernization:

  • 4.5% raise for military personnel

  • Investment in cyber warfare and AI-driven systems

  • Procurement of next-generation aircraft and hypersonic weapons

  • Revitalization of the defense industrial base

  • Onshoring supply chains to reduce reliance on China

The budget also targets bolstering small arms production, munitions stockpiles, and increasing capacity for prolonged peer conflict scenarios.

Shifting Back to Mission-First Culture

The reforms reflect Trump’s philosophy: the military is not a vehicle for social engineering—it is an institution built to defend the nation.

“We are removing politics from defense. DEI has no place in war zones,” Trump said. “We will no longer prioritize gender identity over lethality.”

By restoring focus to fundamentals—discipline, strength, and deterrence—Trump’s military transformation is a reassertion of American resolve in an increasingly volatile world.

Whether these reforms face legal roadblocks or political pushback, they represent a decisive shift in America’s strategic posture, rooted in common sense and unapologetic strength.

America’s military is once again becoming what it was meant to be: the most capable and feared fighting force on Earth.
