In a brazen act of defiance against federal law, Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania Mayor Dontae Comans has ignited fury across the country after issuing an “Urgent Community Alert” warning illegal aliens about potential ICE activity—effectively encouraging obstruction of lawful immigration enforcement in his borough of just 14,000 people.
The mayor’s directive, which reads more like an activist flyer than an official government notice, was posted publicly and widely circulated, urging residents to report sightings of ICE and offering a list of tips to help criminal illegals avoid apprehension.
The Message: Obstruction in Plain Sight
“Let me be absolutely clear,” Comans wrote. “Wilkinsburg does not cooperate with ICE.”
He added that the borough has a “standing ordinance” that protects residents “regardless of immigration status,” and even posted a phone number (412-244-2920) asking to be called if ICE agents are spotted. Among the “Know Your Rights” tips, Comans advised:

In short, an elected official publicly instructed lawbreakers on how to defy federal authorities—and then asked his constituents to become accomplices in that defiance.
“Everyone Here is Family”—Even Criminal Aliens?
In an interview with KDKA, Comans dug in further. When asked why he would aid individuals violating U.S. law, he responded:
“Everyone here is family. We just want to protect each other.”
And when confronted about the legality of harboring illegal aliens, he astonishingly replied:
“That’s how this country started… it’s all about getting that path to being a resident.”
That’s not protection. That’s gaslighting.
No part of American history ever condoned the harboring of criminals or encouraged local officials to obstruct federal law enforcement—and certainly not in the name of “community.”
What About the Criminals ICE Was After?
What Mayor Comans failed to mention is that ICE isn’t conducting random sweeps. The agency’s focus, especially under Operation Patriot and similar campaigns, is on criminal illegal aliens—those with convictions for rape, murder, gang activity, and trafficking. By actively helping them evade arrest, Comans isn’t protecting a community—he’s endangering it.
Where’s the Accountability?
This is not just an abuse of office—it’s potentially a federal crime. Title 8 U.S. Code § 1324 makes it illegal to harbor, conceal, or shield illegal aliens from detection. A sitting mayor encouraging such acts with official resources raises serious legal and constitutional concerns.
The question many Americans are asking is clear: when will someone like Comans finally be held accountable?
