Zelenskyy Proposes Ceasefire as Russian Airfields Burn: ‘Let’s Talk Before More Blood is Spilled’

In a dramatic shift following a wave of airstrikes on Russian military airfields, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extended a ceasefire offer to Moscow, urging immediate talks to prevent further escalation.

“We propose to the Russians a ceasefire until the leaders meet,” Zelenskyy announced in a pointed message. His statement comes as tensions reach new highs and international pressure builds for de-escalation.

Zelenskyy’s proposal calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities starting as early as Monday, contingent on a leadership summit. He emphasized the temporary nature of the truce:
“If there is no mutual understanding… the ceasefire will end that same day.”

The Ukrainian leader invited Russia to initiate the ceasefire unilaterally if they choose, stating, “Feel free to do it.”

This unexpected olive branch comes just days after coordinated attacks left several Russian airfields damaged, igniting fears of broader regional conflict. While Zelenskyy acknowledged the uncertainty of the proposed talks, his message was clear: give diplomacy one last chance.

The ball is now in Russia’s court. Will Putin take the bait—or call Zelenskyy’s bluff?
